he settles upon a leaf
hoping to turn it
but it turns him

he explores a branch
hoping to stick with it
and finds himself stuck

he flees on the ground
hoping to gain some
without losing himself

he clings to the past
hoping to find
that which he lost

he toys with the truth
hoping to change it
but it changes him

he is an enigma
reflecting his fears
to hide his desires
